Stop in to see this stunning black and white photography collection. A portion of art sales will benefit the Library. Bio: For the late Richard Mazer, photography had been for some sixty years an investigation of the potential inherent in black and white imaging. At first, like many photographers, he sought to represent and then enhance the beauty of the natural world. He traveled widely in this quest, as well as worked extensively in his adopted state of Vermont. Mazer believed that the most intense experience in photographic imagery occurs “when the viewer realizes that his interaction with the image is at a both conscious and unconscious levels. The effort of self-exploration this awareness can stimulate, both intellectual and emotional, is the ultimate objective of this genre of fine-art photography.” His work is found in both private collections as well as those of the Fleming Museum in Burlington and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Photographic background: Began black and white photography and darkroom processing in 1948, and continued self-taught until: 1968-Studied black and white technique, film exposure and printing with Paul Caponigro in Danbury, Connecticut. 1973-1990-Exhibited at regional shows in New York suburban area; Westchester Art Society and Rye Art Center, as well as Library shows in White Plains, Scarsdale, Irvington, Harrison. 1987-One-man show at the Fleming Museum in Burlington, VT. 1990-2004-The Stratton Art Festival, Stratton, VT. 2007-51st National Fall Open Exhibition, Southern Vermont Arts Center, Manchester, VT. 2011-One-man show Southern Vermont Arts Center, Manchester, VT.
