If you are interested in participating in a new book group to be held at the library, give us a call and let us know what day and time you can participate. Reading records, bookmarks and stickers are available so your children can keep track of what they read during the summer months. This year's summer theme is A UNIVERSE OF STORIES and we will be having programs for the kiddies related to that as well as other fun things. These story-times and activities will be presented by an experienced former Children's Librarian, Linda Schroeder through August 26th. On Wednesday, July 31st at 1 pm ROCKIN' RON, THE FRIENDLY PIRATE will be at the Londonderry Town meeting room to regale all with music, stories and songs. So come on over Mateys and sing along with pirate tunes. There is an opportunity for musicians of all ages and level to Jam with renowned fiddler, Ida Mae Specker on Wednesday, August 7th from 4 to 6 pm. BRING AN INSTRUMENT and join the fun! The guest artist for the months of May and June is Kim Eng Yeo. Kim is an amazing watercolorist and her botanical-like paintings are outstanding. She has very kindly offered to present a free watercolor class to artists or aspiring artists of all abilities on Wednesday, May 15th from 3 to 4:30. Space is limited so please call the library at 824-3371 to sign up. You can view her exhibit anytime during library hours. Here are our NEW HOURS: We are now open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 5 pm. Due to lack of patronage on Wednesday evenings we will no longer be open 7 to 9 pm. Saturdays will remain the same – from 10 am to 1 pm. If you would like to participate in the wonderful world of books and have a few hours a week to spare, consider becoming a library volunteer. On Saturday, May 11th at 10:30, Casey Junker Bailey will present a creative workshop to celebrate Mother’s Day. Children of all ages are invited to come to the library and make a special gift for Mom. Come to the Library on Saturday, April 27th to celebrate spring with spring stories and a planting workshop. While you are here you can view Esther Fishman's art exhibit that is on display until the end of the month. Amazing pastels of local scenes, intricate miniature collages, ornaments and jewelry are for sale and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the library. Or, we have thousands of gently used books of quality that you could buy for the reader in your family. A very special Christmas tree fashioned entirely out of books was a highlight to all who visited when Santa was here. On that day, Casey Junker Bailey presented another fun program for children and the kids made a unique gift to bring home. The tree will be on display through January 6th. Currently showing in the Janeway Wing of the library are outstanding pictures of Bhutan and Nepal photographed and displayed by world-traveler, Paul E. Myers. The Himalayan scenery is stunning and the people are inventive and lively. Stop in and view some images of the people and places of these astonishing countries. On Wednesday, June 27th at 7 pm there will be an artist's reception. Paul will give a talk and guide you through the places he has visited. There will be refreshments and time for questions and comments after his presentation. All are welcome. BALLOON CREATIONS - COME TO THE LIBRARY ON Saturday, June 30th between 10:30 and 12:30. Linda Schroeder will make you a critter, a flower, a sword or something else you might request. KICKOFF FOR SUMMER READING AND CELEBRATION OF FATHER'S DAY The South Londonderry Free Library is celebrating the arrival of summer with a Summer Reading Kickoff and A Day for Dad’s on Saturday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m.. Join Casey Junker Bailey as she launches this year’s reading program for kids: Libraries Rock! During the same program we’ll also celebrate dads that rock by making cards and gifts for the gentlemen in our lives. MAY 2018 On exhibit during the month of May is a unique show of postage stamps from around the world and the United States, presented by Bill Barclay of the Vermont Philatelic Society. Displayed are Italian stamps dated from 1863 to 1927, postage stamps of Pakistan and U.S. Commemorative Stamps from 1971 to 1968. Come to the library on Saturday, May 12th at 10:30 to celebrate Mother’s Day with artist, Casey Junker Bailey. Children of all ages are invited come over to make a special homemade Mother’s Day card, crafted with love. On Wednesday May 23rd at 2 p.m. there will be a Mindful Meditation Class with Cheryl Wilfong who is a Community Dharma Leader as well as a Master Gardener and an accomplished author of many gardening books. Vermont author, Dean Whitlock, will be at the South Londonderry Depot on Wednesday, May 23rd at 7:30 pm. The South Londonderry Free Library is excited to announce the launch of its brand new website! Library patrons are now able to browse the library's catalog via the LibraryWorld Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). Patron will also be able to place holds on items from OPAC. The website also features a calendar of upcoming events and programs, a News blog feed, and detailed descriptions of the many services offered by the library. We wanted to create a website that would help our library user easily access our Online Public Access Catalog, as well as all of the other amazing services our library has to offer. Our hope is that our website will help make our library more accessible to our patrons and library lovers just passing through.
